S1 EP5 : In this episode Lilwen speaks to a couple who are farming pigs in South Wales near Brynamman, Carmarthenshire where they produce a high end air dried meat product such as charcuterie under their brand ‘The Bakers Pig’. They let us into their world and cold storage where the magic happens and give us an insight into why and how they do that. They are award winning food producers who are truly passionate about their business and have taken consistent steps to be financially profitable and therefore sustainable despite hardship and a personal tragedy that they and their family have endured in losing a young child to cancer some years ago. That had them buy the farm and set out to help others going through this heartache and how they can be a contribution now to others. Watch the space for ‘Coed Tir George’ opening its doors next year 2026 for families looking for a place to recover and get away for short periods whilst dealing with loss and bereavement. I remember very clearly when I met with them both that this dream of having this space open was a stick in the ground in a shrubby area on the top of the beautiful Brynamman Valley. Where they now have a farm shop deli and a thriving online business. You will hear from Andy and Lizzie how passion and vision and hard work and remembering who the boss is, has taken them to an amazing place where they offer tasty and ethical meat products and soon to be a nature friendly place to rest and recover. They also offer day workshops on the farm as an Introduction to Charcuterie, hands on for chefs and anyone wanting to learn how to make their own.
